Your Bucket List Awaits: Check Out the Perfect Location for Trying New Things

Try a new restaurant. Check out a new brewery. People have many different items on their bucket list. Pawleys Island, Litchfield Beach, Georgetown, and Garden City Beach in South Carolina are great places to complete those and other bucket list items, and they’re all within a short distance from The Oceanfront Litchfield Inn.

1. Go Exploring for Something Different

Brookgreen Gardens in Georgetown County lists three goals for the property: to collect, exhibit, and preserve American figurative sculpture, the plants of the Southeast, and the animals of the Southeast. It has been described as “the finest outdoor museum of its type in the world.”

Brookgreen offers various “excursions” such as its Creek Excursion, which allows adults and children to cruise the creeks on a 48-foot pontoon boat. The excursion features historic rice fields that are home to alligators, waterfowl, and osprey. An interpreter will comment on the distinctive landscape of the rice plantations and the role of enslaved Africans in the cultivation of the rice crop and the shaping of the history of the Lowcountry.

2. Try a Different Fishing Experience

Murrells Inlet is known as a top inshore and nearshore fishing destination — located near Litchfield Inn — and it’s a great spot to check off that bucket list item to try new things. One way to do that is to take a fishing charter.

And one of those is the FishZilla Fishing Charter. Fishermen and women will see all the top spots in a 25-foot Key West center console. They will pursue tasty and fun-to-catch fish such as redfish, flounder, and sheepshead, as well as some larger targets such as cobia and kingfish.

3. Eat Something Different

Dining choices in the areas surrounding Litchfield Inn are plenty, with choices for all tastes and dietary needs. And the Chive Blossom Restaurant & Bar fits the bill, featuring dishes with Mediterranean, French and Asian influences. Vegetarian and gluten-free options appear throughout the lunch and dinner menus. But meat lovers must try the blackened pork porterhouse, which comes with black eyed peas, collard greens, warm bacon tomato vinaigrette and creamed corn cornbread.

4. Drink Something Different

The Blake brothers started out by creating a batch of home brew on the steps of the small white bungalow that their grandfather had built in the 1950s. From there, they established The Pawleys Island Brewing Company with “a passion for creating tasty and enduring beers.”

 Part of anyone’s bucket list should be to try one of Pawleys Island Brewing Company’s featured beers called “Big Sandy Beaches.” The company describes it as possibly the perfect beach beer, and it is a kellerbier-style lager, which means it is unfiltered. Unlike American-style light beers, it is brewed with 100% malted barley.

5. Try a Different Day Trip

Georgetown, SC is just a short drive from Litchfield Inn, and people can place a checkmark on their bucket list by taking part in their choice of many activities. Downtown Georgetown is one example, and it is a destination for waterfront shopping, dining, boating, fishing, and historic tours. Georgetown offers many different tours, but it’s also known for … ghosts!  Visitors can take a nighttime “ghost walk” to hear all the eerie stories.

And of course, another day trip should include the beach; namely, Litchfield Beach and Garden City Beach. That latter beach offers a creek walk, a marina, amusements, restaurants and other businesses.
