Tips for Riding a Kayak
Humans have ridden in kayaks for 5,000 years, the first made of animal skins, bones, and wood. Today’s models are less organic, and way more fun.
- Bring friends
Never venture out solo. On tours, stay with the group for safety.
- Try it on first
Sit in your kayak on dry land to adjust the backband and footrest. (Some kayaks have many footrests and won’t need a change.)
- Dress right
This includes non-cotton, non-binding swimwear or shorts, non-cotton rashguard top, and neoprene footwear. Wear a hat, lightweight fleece jacket or vest, or spray and rain jacket and pants.
