For a nice night out with the family, head to Brookgreen Gardens in Murrels Inlet for their popular “Cool Summer Evenings.” Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings until August 10th, guests can visit the Brookgreen Gardens to enjoy live musical performances (Wednesdays and Fridays) or activities for the kids (Thursdays). Performances typically start at 7:00 p.m. and the type of artists include jazz, rock, bluegrass, blues, modern country and big band.
On Thursdays, there are activities for kids to teach them about nature in a fun way. First, there is the live animals shows from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Campbell Center for American Sculpture outdoor patio in the Brookgreen Zoo area. This show is hosted by Jerry Walls, a naturalist, professional bird guide and co-star of CBS television’s Carolina Safari. Jerry will educate kids on a different animal every week during this fun and interactive show. Following the show, families can head to the Welcome Center for “Family Fun with Science-Oh, My!” which is an interactive learning session where family members can create crafts and play games to encourage learning about science. Such topics include “Magnet Magic” and Lights On.”
The gardens stay open until 9:00 pm and admission is free to members or $7 for adults and $5 for children in addition to garden admission. No alcohol is allowed and there will be snacks and beverages for purchase. Picnics are allowed in designated areas and the on-site restaurant will be open for dinner on Wednesdays and Fridays.
